Solved: Dell Precision 450 Delay between POST and OS start

$

My Dell Precision 450 completes POST and offers F2 Setup, or F12 Boot Menu.

Whatever I choose and also if I do nothing, I get a blank screen with a flashing cursor and the diagnostic lights on the front stay on A & B steady green and C & D steady yellow.

This goes on for 3 - 5 minutes, then boot up continues.. I am trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro and this delay causes it to restart the installation every time this delay occurs on restarting the PC, which happens routinely during the install. This makes the reinstall impossible.

The PC is a Dell Precision 450 Workstation built 2003

Two twin core Intel Xeon 2.8GHz CPUs
2GB PC2100 DDR Memory
ATI Radeon AGP 512 MB Graphics Card
Two Seagate 160 GB IDE HDDs, (1 with Ubuntu, the other Windows XP Pro SP 3) I have tried master/slave in both directions and cable select but this has no effect on the delay.
1 DVD RW+- and RAM
1 CD R/DVD ROM

PSU 360W tested fuly functional.

I will run the TSG Sysinfo in the morning, assuming it will run in UBUNTU, and post the results. It takes a bit of time because I have to transfer from one PC to another as the Dell is not internet connected until I get Windows up and running.

Any ideas will be most welcome.

Hello, I am buying a ASUS z77 motherboard and on the specifications list it says intel this and intel that and even for processors. I was wondering if you an put an AMD processor in that computer and/or if it even matters what processor you put in your motherboard if the socket fits.

Thanks a lot,

Computer suddenly slow and freezes

Ok I've never had issues before with my laptop before two days ago. Here's the info.

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD E-300 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, AMD64 Family 20 Model 2 Stepping 0
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 2662 Mb
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics, 384 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 289709 MB, Free - 157707 MB;
Motherboard: TOSHIBA, Portable PC
Antivirus: Norton Internet Security, Updated and Enabled

All I did was update my version of Skype. I didn't make any other downloads that day. After the update my computer proceeds to run slower, and where it could normally handle multiple programs at once now if two or three are up it slows dramatically, and after about 5 minutes or so it slows to the point where it freezes and nothing responds. If I'm lucky, after a few minutes frozen it will jump to respond to any clicks or buttons pressed but then freezes again and longer. If I 3 key boot, if it jumps from a froze position, I get a black screen with the cursor that will not move. I don't know what to do anymore - I'm out of ideas. Help please...

Lenovo u310 driver_power_state_failure

I bought this device 1 month ago, and several days after - the pc won't awake from sleep, getting into the "new" blue screen saying "driver_power_state_failure".

After restart, a msg came saying the Intel Rapid Start Technology wasn't enables.

1. I downloaded the IRST from Lenovo site, but once trying to install, I got a msg saying the my pc does not have the minimum requirements to be installed.
2. So I googled, and came up with something that says that that I need to enable AHCI in my Bios.
3. I went to the BIOS, and indeed the AHCI was enabled.
4. In the BIOS, also the Intel Rapid Start Technology was enabled.
5. However, its status was "INVALID".

Please, I have no idea where to go next. It seems my computer hates me... :(

Computer boots, no video, works if clear CMOS

Built a new computer this week. Worked fine until I hooked up an old hard drive. After that, on cold boot the computer boots into Windows (I can hear the loading music) but I don't see anything on the screen, and the monitor light just blinks on and off. If I clear CMOS, it boots fine (until the next time). Weird thing is that this was an issue I had on the old computer that the old drive came from. Never resolved the issue (I was planning to rebuild anyway), but figured it was the GPU (the components were all 6 years old). Parts on this new build are all new. Any ideas?

Motherboard: Asus P9X79 WS
CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 (with Hyper 212 EVO cooler)
GPU: Geforce GTX 660

Boot Drive: 256GB Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD
Other HDDs: Several WD Black Caviar drives

Need help with Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H motherboard

Hi,

I am new to pc building. Recently, I try to build a pc. Everything is OK but only the LAN part had a problem. The network cable will automatically unplugged and reconnecting repeatedly when there is large amount of usage of data. I follow the solution I saw on line by changing the speed and duplex settings to 10 Mbps full duplex. It solved the problem but again after large amount of data used, another problem shows up. The network shows there is no internet access. I have changed a few cables already. I am not sure now if it is the motherboard problem or the drivers or the settings problem. My home speed is very slow(1 Mbps, 1 Kbps download speed, 0.3 Kbps upload speed). Can it be the reason?

Please help me with this issue. Thank you very much.

My computer:
Intel i5-3570K
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H REV 1.1
Kingston HyperX 2x4 GB RAM 1333 MHz
Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce GTX 650Ti
Corsair ATX power supply VS550
Cooler Master Centurion 6 Casing

Network Adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR8161/8165 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)

Ran chkdsk from bootup, still have the problem
Have CPUID Installed

What reports do I need to generate in order for you to tell me what might be the problem?

These are screenshots of my friend's HWMonitor readings:

First
Second

TMPIN1 and TMPIN2 are running hot and we don't know why, or what the readings are. He just installed a new PSU and video card because his old video card crapped out.

Also, are those fan speeds normal for that CPU? 1800 RPM is much lower than the usual fan speed of my Phenom II X6 1090T. He has the 1065T.

Same with the 2.1 CPU VCore. Is that normal?

Having Hard Drive issues

Good day everyone. I have two computers that are having hard drive issues, my main computer , which is a Dell Dimension 4300, running XP and my 2nd (back-up) which is a Dell Dimension 2400, also running XP. The most concerning is with my main comp and will deal with my back-up at a later time.

Recently, I had a scan performed by a Dell tech and I was informed that my main hard drive (C:) which is a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV, Mod. # ST340016A 40 GB, is dying.... slowly, but dying none-the-less. Obtaining funds to completely replace this drive will take some time, as being a healthcare provider for my handicapped gf pays nothing, except for her SSI, which we need to survive, I wasn't too worried about this due to the fact that I have a second drive (D:) which is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 40GB installed. I am confused from this point on. I know this drive is functional because I keep files on it, ie; music, videos, movies, exe. programs, etc. but, the drive is not being "recognized" by the computer. (?)
Not being too computer savvy (I don't even know how to command prompt.... I know), I thought that all I had to do was to switch drives (1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st) and this would resolve my issue.... but I was wrong !!
My question(s):
Why is my second drive not being recognized, even though I am able to store files on it ?
Can this be resolved ?
(if not)
Why can't I use my second drive as the main drive ? (or is that part of my first question as well)
Totally confused and completely aggravated !!!!!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated !!!
8^)

Display locks up with colored static when laptop is moved

I read another post by ktlogan1981 that had unfortunately been locked because he never got an answer.
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/1...ns-static.html

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 7 that I bought a little over a year ago.

Recently had sent it in for repair because it would not boot up - when powered on, the fan would come on, a couple lights, but nothing else, no display, nothing.

The repair place said that the harddrive was bad, however, I have had the old harddrive tested, it is fine, and I have had several people tell me that even with a bad harddrive the computer should have still booted up.

Got the computer back, had to use the Recovery disk to reinstall the operating system. Tons of updates and stuff for all the necessary programs... like Java.

Everything was running ok (still a few glitches) and then I got an automatic update for Java (to Java 6 I believe) a few days ago. Then yesterday, I was working on the computer, picked it up to move it and the screen went to colored static, the fan came on, and nothing was responsive - had to hard boot with the power button, booted up just fine - until I moved it again.

I thought at first maybe a wire was loose and when I picked up the comp, that was causing it to do that, however, it only seemed to happen when I turned the computer towards the right side (where the cd tray is).

Got ahold of the warranty department that fixed the computer and he said he thought it was a software issue instead of a hardware issue and had me do a system restore.

After the restore - it was working great, tilted and turned it all around, no static lockup! Then I updated Java again - and still, no lock up when I turned it all around - until a few minutes later, it locked up again when I moved it!

So now I have done another system restore and I have NOT updated Java. So far, no static lockup. I will update tomorrow or if it occurs again without updating Java.

I was curious if a program, like Java, could cause the LCD display to that just by MOVING the computer?? Or if anyone had any suggestions or solutions.

Thanks so much,
Debi R.

I must have misplaced the CD my PSY NE669 web cam came with and now Windows XP sees it, but does not recognize it as a web cam. I've searched everywhere online, but can't find the driver for it. Does anyone know if there are other ways to make Windows treat it as a web cam? Thanks!

Upgrade to Computer

Hey guys, I'm not experienced in this field at all and would require some assistance in finding a good upgrade to my computer, I've had it for over a year now and am starting to feel as though I could make it better in some way.
I don't want to in any way damage my computer or do anything wrong that would cause it to malfunction, so if possible could you help me find a budget upgrade that I could possibly follow, thank you.

My Specs:
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
DirectX: 11.0
CPU: AMD FX-4100 (Quad-Core)
Mem: 8GB RAM
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
Video: AMD Radeon HD 6670 (4095 MB)
Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio
Monitor(s): Acer G226HQLBBD 21.5 inch Full HD LED Monitor - Black
Power Supply: 500W

I was thinking of upgrading my Graphics Card to an Asus HD 7770 2GB AMD Radeon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-7770-Ra...ds=HD+7770+2gb

I told one of my friends that I was thinking about purchasing this and he told me that I might need to also buy a new fan in order to have it in my computer, if you need anything, just ask and I can try and get you the information ASAP.

If this matters, my case is a Galaxy 3 Mid Tower Black 450W PSU Bubble Light Windows LED
http://www.amazon.co.uk/DESKTOP-COMP.../dp/B005IDO352

If you don't think the Asus HD 7770 2GB AMD Radeon would be compatible or not the best choice for a budget of about £200-£300 then please offer suggestions :)

Reasons for upgrading:
I play BF3 on Low settings at 1600x900 steady 30-40FPS and wanted to be able to run at Ultra on similar FPS ratios, I would also be playing quite demanding games on release such as GTA V, I would love to have information on this if possible, thankyou!

Which CPU

Hi! Since my computer is 8 years old, I'm thinking of buying a new one, espercially since they're going to be taxing the internet. Even $30 savings is good now. My question is---which processor do you think is better. I'm partial to AMD, and will be going with an AMD. Which AMD is better? I'm not a gamer, but I do view some video, and the onboard video on an ASUS board is fine for me. I've seen reviews where the Phenom II X4 965 is still considered the best buy. I've looked at the Bulldozer and Trinity lines, and they don't seem to have any significant adavantages. Any and all responses will be aprreciated. Thanks.
