Multiple bluescreens - believe my graphics card is not installed correctly

$

A few months back I bought a computer built by a friend of a friend but it came only with a very basic graphics card which I traded up for a Radeon 7870. My brother installed it for me because I didn't know how and after I have gotten multiple errors saying the driver has stopped responding and three bluescreens which I figure is related but I am not sure. I don't know what information is needed to diagnose this so feel free to ask. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

No vga connection to monitor while vga plugged in

First off, I built my own computer. I was all finished and had plugged it into the monitor. I didn't have Windows in my possession but I just wanted to see if it worked. It did, the bios menu popped up, then I turned the computer off. Two days later, I go to turn on the computer and a small white window popped up saying there was no vga input. It also said the monitor was going to sleep, then turned off. I then checked all the connections inside the computer and they were all correct.I tried again and still no result. I plugged the monitor into another computer and it worked just fine. Probably something wrong with the computer, but not sure, but that's why I'm here. Please help, thanks in advance!

RAM is 32GB needed?

Is 32 GB RAM adequate in a PC build with a i7 3770K CPU and a GA UD5H mobo? Pro quality video conferencing and HD voice-to-text are needed, but no overclocking. I assume that RAM size matters more than speed, and that 64GB is an overkill but am not sure if 32GB is needed. Kingston is preferred. Grateful for any suggestions.

Solved: What decent/good Mobo for Corsair XMS3 4G?

Hi,

I'm new here, but I was wondering if anyone has the time to answer me this question; I would really appreciate it, I currently have four (4x4GB total 16GBs) of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333hz CMX4GX3M1A1333C9 Ram and I'm trying to purchase a good compatible motherboard for it, but I do have a preference to use Intel CPUs motherboards only, I'm not interested in AMD CPUs mobos, don't take offense, that's just not my preference.

I tried one Intel board but it was total devastation, simply wasn't compatible enough with it, and I really don't want to go through that again, so if anyone has a good conclusive answer please accept my gratitude in advanced for your time and patience.
P.S Yes, I have Googled it but I keep getting irrational resutls.

Thanks.

P.S I would like to make full use of all 16GBs of RAM I have, so a board with 4 slots is absolutely preferred. Thank you.

HP 5610xi AIO printer install/setup issue

Been working on this one since Thursday...

HP 5610xi AIO printer- customer did basic install for print function only, now wants all the features. Scan option on device shows no scan option available (with ! blinking). Computer is a Dell Inspiron with windows 7.

Customer purchased install CD online, couldn't complete install (blocksysuserinstall.exe not found). I solved this by renaming extract folder to match the address the install was looking for (previous install was deleted, registry keys still exist??) Now the software will load, but install hangs on configuration, then stops. Error log runs, along with a fix downloaded to desktop. It suggests completing install then running fix- after reboot I try to complete install but the fix is just a file with HTML code.

After several retries the install will not detect the printer through USB, install will otherwise complete but HP Solution Center will not run (says install not done). HP Print doctor finds no issues with Print or Scan. I can print fine, can scan with windows app, cannot fax (trying to figure out how to set up fax)

I'm told that if the install works correctly there should be a fax configuration setup. Is there some firmware I need for the scan? I can't get the scan options to come up on the printer console.

The printer has only a RJ11 jack for faxing. If I connect to a modem will the computer the printer is connected to detect it?

Mouse right click

So I'm using a Logitech M305. When I right click on a file, it seems to crash the mouse if that's possible and I get a box to close the program. Is it a mouse issue or a computer issue? I can still right click in a document. Device manager says working properly.

sd400v in Windows 8 64 Bit

Hello All,

This is a fix that I just applied to my Windows 8 64-bit Lenovo Twist. It is working great for video service. It takes a few minutes and couple of downloads from Kensington and Displaylink to work though. I hope it works for you too.

Uninstall All Version of Displaylink from Programs & Features in the Control Panel. Unplug the sd400v from your machine, and don't plug it back in until the steps below are complete.

You MUST Install V5.5 to make it work, that is the only version the onboard firmware will recognize that is also compatible with newer versions.

1) You need to download Displaylink V5.5 from http://www.displaylink.com/support/sla.php?fileid=33
2) Extract the file into a folder that you can navigate to, then right-click the Setup.exe file and choose Troubleshoot compatibility, the choose Troubleshoot program
3) Pick It worked in an earlier version AND requires additional permissions
4) During this process choose the option that it worked in Windows 7, I think you'll need to click this a couple of times.
5) It will run through the install software and give an error that says it isn't compatible with the operating system (Windows 8), choose Run Anyway and it will.
6) After the install is complete it will just finish with no screen saying that it is done, so I went to Programs & Features and checked the installed version as 5.5 (it's the column all the way to the right in Programs & Features)
7) Next you need to download the latest and greatest version of DisplayLink (I got V7.2 today) from http://www.displaylink.com/support/sla.php?fileid=88
8) Install that version, then double check Programs & Features to make sure they are there, both Display Link Core Software and DisplayLink Graphics.

9) Now that all that is finished, Plug in the sd400v. It will run through the install and tell you it doesn't work, just choose Run Anyway and it will install and start working just fine.

I tried for about 5 hours today to get this solved, if there is an easier way please post it, but if not, I really hope this helps somebody out there.:D

Overheating

I kept getting the black screen of death on my T-series emachine running Windows XP. After many hours, I opened up the side of the case and put a fan next to it. I have had no problem for well over an hour. My question is: there are three fans I see; how can I decide which one(s) to replace?

Processor Trashed or Can Be Saved?

I was having some tempurature problems and decided to clean out the case. I made the idiotic mistake of not making sure the processor fan power harness was pushed all the way down to the board. I turned on the computer and after POST I got the message "processor failure powering down", so I powered it down and looked and secured the power clip. I waited a while and turned back on. The HP blue screen came up with the options boot menu, setup, diagnostics, recovery. (normal for boot up) After that screen a black screen came up with a _cursor blinking in the upper left corner. It stays there and does nothing. On the blue screen the only option I got to work is setup. When the setup menu came up the keyboard would not respond even for exit/save. I thought I would flash the bios but could not find the bios for my motherboard (ASUS M2N68-LA(NARRA3) ). Is there a chance it is not a burnt out processor and just BIOS or MB drivers?

I have a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard, running Windows 7 home 64bit, With a WD sata drive as the boot drive. I installed a Seagate Barracuda 3TB SATA drive for backup/storage. The problem is that the large backup drive is not seen in "computer". It is seen in device manager as well as in disc management under admin. tools, but only as a partitioned drive between approx. 2 TB and 1TB unallocated. There is no drive letter assigned to this drive under Disc management. Two questions, one, how do I get the 3TB backup drive to be recognized from "computer"? and two, can I format the 3TB drive to only have the one 3TB partition? Thanks so much in advance for all you guys do to help numbnuts like me! Any response is well appreciated!

Toshiba M305 S4848 screen is dark

Hello, I replaced the screen cable on my Toshiba Satellite M305-S4848 after the cable was diagnosed as faulty by a local computer repair service ( they wanted to much to replace it) before I replaced the cable I had a screen that would flicker on and off when I moved the screen open and partly closed, after replacing the screen cable I get nothing on the screen, just dark, I have gone thru and double checked all connections and they are solid, do you have a probable cause and fix? Just for fun I tried to add an external monitor to see if it worked and also got nothing but dark.

Games completely lose sound but other programs keep sound.

Hi guys, i tried sifting through the forums for something similar but i can not find anything like my problem.

The problem is when i play games after about 10 minutes sound in that program and only that program will stop. If i am in skype with someone or i have iTunes playing music in the background, none of that stops. It happens from low end games like fallout 2 to mid level games like league of legends. In leauge of legends if i go into sound options and mute the sound and then unmute it the sound comes back, thats the only game it happens on.

I'm using an on board sound card, everything is seems to be unto date. i was wondering if any one had had similar problems like this. I get the feeling its a piece of hardware dying somewhere, is this a symptom?

Any feedback would be greatly appriciated!

Newbie Install - PCI to USB Card

Hi TSG! I am here again for help with a computer issue, but this time not a major one (I hope). I finally have a moment to install a recommended piece of hardware to my PC, but want to first be sure that I am getting the right (best and/or easiest to install) piece of equipment. And, once I get it, I would need some help installing it. This all stems from a post from an older thread of mine which can be found here:

http://forums.techguy.org/8618252-post323.html

Not sure if you need a HJT log so I will just wait for someone to respond and then go from there. Thanks to all who lend a hand! :)

My question is do I need to set the SATA1 controller mode to default whihc is RAID or change it to AHC1?
Also may I add that I am planning to backup my computer on an external hard drive after I the recovery.

I have a Compaq desk top. The fans stoped working and displayed the message ( no cpu fan ), so first I purchased 2 new fans, no luck. then I took it to the computer lab at college and they told me that it was a bad mother board, so I purchased a used one from Ebay. When it came in I took it and had it installed but they said that I got a bad one, so here is the symtoms " no video, fans dont work, and does not boot up. I know the cpu is good because I also purchased a new one of them and installed it. What is funny about this is with the newly purchased mother board, the computer does even less now than it did with the old mother board. ohhhh and I also purchased a mother board pci checker card and it codes all good but still no computer working. About a year ago I purchased a new power supply and installed it, do you think that it could have gone bad already? Because most of the problems that I can find on the net about this mother board are all power supply related. I hope that you can please help me with this problem. Thank you and sincerly yours Troy
